The ship is marked 'unknown', but it is actually known as one of the Abbey railway boats which ran between Goole and Copenhagen in the early sixties.
I myself was an able seaman on the Whitby Abbey before I joined a foreign army.
I cannot remember the name of the other Abbey boat.

Hello Les Palmer, How I have racked my poor old brain to come up with your name and now you have also filled in many of the blanks in the photo. I stand corrected about the girl 3rd from left middle row - it is Lindsey Hewitt not Anne Beaumont and I also have to correct Stephen Grasby who is 6th from left on back row not 5th as that is indeed Jimmy Mann. If the names put forward between us are right so far then I only have 7 gaps left to fill. Hope you are keeping well Les and that life is being kind to you.

Memories flood back to me when I saw the picture of the fair ground of the 1930`s. As a kid I loved to go to the fair when it came to town. All the rides, boothes and food. It was an endless day of wonder and I used to envy the Carnies who worked on the rides. Happy days.

In addition to Malcolm's recollections (which I beleieve are correct) I also think some of the others are:

Back row - 5th from left - Stephen Grasby
Back row - 9th from left - David Hartlebruy
Second row - 3rd from left - Anne Beaumont

Isn't it frustrating when you recognise the faces but can't bring the names to mind?

I am third from left on front row, lovely also to see my 'old' school friends who will be in their 60th year arh! Was Jean Clark
